2021 was a pivotal year for Mercedes-Benz's electric future. The EQA and EQB electric crossovers and the prestigious EQS sedan have arrived in the range . The house of the three-pointed star also announced a more classic and affordable sedan, the EQE.
At the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, the abbreviation EQE was also used for an SUV , branded Mercedes-Maybach and proposed as a concept car; EQE will in fact be available in both sedan and crossover versions. For the first time a prototype of the latter variant, obviously with the customary camouflage, was photographed in Germany .
The design is clearly that of a production car in the final stages of testing. The handles are retractable as in the EQE sedan . This choice was made to improve aerodynamics, as well as the low position of the external side mirrors and the use of special alloy wheels .
Let's assume that, in the same way as the sedan, the EQE SUV will be offered with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Power in the 350 variant will be ensured by a rear-mounted electric motor, capable of generating 292 hp and 530 Nm of torque . The sedan uses a 90 kWh battery, which we will likely see again in the SUV.
The launch of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is scheduled for 2022 , the model will be built at the Tuscaloosa plant, United States, alongside the EQS, GLE, GLE Coupé and GLS.
