The Mercedes-Maybach S-class will be equipped with a six-cylinder engine for the Chinese market. Mercedes-Maybach S 480 4Matic will be the name of this variant. It is unclear if the ultra-luxurious S-class would also be available in Europe with this motorization.
In China, the extra-long Mercedes-Maybach S-class is only available in the Mercedes-Maybach S 480 4Matic trim level. The powerful 3.0 mild hybrid six-in-line engine with 367 hp and 500 Nm, which we know from the S 450 4Matic, is under the hood. The top limousine sprints to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h with that power source. Since cars in China are taxed based on engine size, it's only natural that the Maybach will be classified as three liters on the price list. It costs € 187,415 there when converted to euros. It's unclear if this engine version will be available in Europe in the future.
Furthermore, it is unknown which engines will be offered in Europe with the Mercedes-Maybach S-class. The 4.0 biturbo V8 from the GLS 580, on the other hand, would undoubtedly be mounted under the hood of the S. Mercedes also teased photos of a V12-powered version. This is most likely the 630 horsepower engine from the Mercedes-Maybach S 650. In the summer of this year, the top limousine will be affordable.
