Little information has been disclosed by Hyundai, apart from four photos accompanied by a description that is elusive to say the least. According to the automaker, “The Santa Cruz 2022 is breaking new ground in the SUV, truck and crossover segment by creating a new class of vehicles unmatched in the North American market. “It is therefore possible to believe that it will approach an SUV currently offered in the manufacturer's range but that it will offer a body in the back rather than a closed trunk.
Looking at the loose sketches, the Santa Cruz will certainly come close to the Tucson, at least in design. The front portion is roughly identical to that of the Tucson 2022 (which will hit the market shortly), with its finned radiator grille including running lights with headlights placed on either side, a bit lower. . Squared lines are nevertheless present so that it is closer to the truck approach.
Although few details have been released as to the mechanics, it is possible to believe that several options will be offered. The most logical options are, for the base versions, the turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder or the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, two engines that equip the base versions of the brand's SUVs. It is also possible that the 2.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder found under the hood of the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe is part of a more powerful version. All-wheel drive will be offered and an automatic transmission will likely be standard.
All the details will be revealed at the official launch which will take place on April 15. Production of the Hyundai Santa Cruz will begin over the summer at the Montgomery, Alabama plant before being released to consumers a few weeks later.
