Electric Fiat 500

The manufacturer is forced to reduce the production of its small electric Fiat 500 despite strong demand for the model.

If the electric Fiat 500 is selling very well, the manufacturer is struggling to provide a battery to assemble its small city car, which is however on the rise in Italy.

The firm is encountering battery supply difficulties as it indicates in a press release. For the moment, it does not specify the source of the shortage. The electric car Fiat 500 uses cells produced by Samsung SDI. The capacity of its battery is 42 kWh. An entry-level version of the 500 with a 23.8 kWh battery was also announced last October. The latter is not yet marketed.

From April 19, production will drop from 300 to just 210 cars per day at its Turin plant. Thus, only one team will assemble the small 500 instead of 2 normally. Production of the electric version of the Fiat 500 began at the beginning of 2021. It required the employment of 160 temporary workers to ensure the assembly rate linked to strong demand.
